Amphion and how they become king and
queen of Thebes. Arrows of Artemis: Niobe
and Chloris solves the ancient mass murder and sets the stage for Jocasta.
Two of your novels have been translated
into Greek. How did that happen?
After Jocasta came out, we were contacted
by Kedros Publishers of Athens, a Greek
publishing house that has translated the
work of many American authors—in-
cluding Stephen King—into Greek. So
far, Kedros has published Ioĸáσıη, which
is the translation of Jocasta, and Nıóβη,
which is the translation of Children
of Tantalus. They are available for pur-
chase on the Kedros.gr website.
How do you divide your time between
actuarial and literary matters?
It’s a balancing act! Alice’s day job as
executive vice president for Willis Re
Inc. in New York keeps her extremely
busy, but she tries to find a few hours a
week to write—usually on the weekend,
but sometimes the plane flights and ho-
tel stays that come with business travel
offer opportunities for writing as well.
One last question: Are your books
only for ancient history buffs?
Far from it! We’ve been pleased to hear
from readers of both sexes who initially
thought books set in the ancient world
wouldn’t be their kind of thing and yet
found themselves so drawn into the story
that they stayed up late into the night to
finish a chapter (or the whole book). We
have tried to write novels that offer sus-
penseful pacing, interesting characters,
and an intriguing world that is both famil-
iar and not quite familiar. We believe this
is a mix that will appeal to most readers.
