also its permanently high unemployment and anemic economic
growth rates.
I had a similar reaction reading “Lessons from the Farm” in
the same issue. The fact that large
majorities of the public are satisfied with their own medical care
suggests that while the system is
in need of certain reforms to contain costs and increase access and
portability, the overall U.S. health care
system is a very good system (the best in
the world, in fact).

food, health care, or whatever, then
I am now entitled to the fruits of my
neighbor’s labor and, consequently,
to his time. In other words, I have

While it is true that unlike the consti-
tutions of some other countries, the U.S.
Constitution does not contain a “right”
to health care, neither does it contain a
“right” to food, clothing, or shelter, al-
though every person needs these things
to survive. Why is this? It is because in
order for something to be an actual right,
it must not infringe upon the rights of
another citizen. For example, my rights
to free speech, or to freely assemble

quality of American health care? Yes. Am
I afraid that if this abomination is not
repealed, it will accelerate our path to
national bankruptcy to warp speed? Yes.
